New Year, New Mindset

Happy New Year Lovebug (Throws confetti)! Vision boards around America are being hung, resolutions printed and important dates are being inked in planners at this very moment. With all the New Year hype, I’m sure you may also be busy making your plans to make the most of this new season. Great! Me too! In this season’s “must dos”, there are few personal goals that I must achieve including improving my health, finances, and relationship with God. While it’s fine to set goals, and aspire to be a better person, our mindset ignites the action needed to accomplish those goals. It is our perspective or lack thereof that drives our decisions. Then our decisions affect our ability to achieve our goals. This is a practical principle found in the Bible. Though the sacrifice of Christ, grants us access to a renewed mind, it is up to us to develop that new mind.

Assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. – Ephesians 4:22-26

It is such a defeating feeling to know you set a goal and started off with good intentions only to not even come close to meeting the goal. Trust me. I’ve done it before. My goal in 2017 is to help other women create habits and mindsets that help them move beyond cycles of destruction and brokenness into a Christ-designed life. A Christ designed life is a life aligns with the will of God. It is the moment of moving beyond just existing and moving into a lifestyle that exudes confidence in who you are in Christ. It is a life that consists of the Word of God being so deeply rooted in your nature that your heart starts to sing love songs to the Father. It is the lifestyle of intention and purpose.

To live the life God meant for us to have, we’re going to need to add some S.P.I.C.E.

Spend Time Reading the Word. The Bible is our guide for daily living. If we want to understand the heart of God and His plan for our lives, we must be dependent on the Word.

Plan to Have some Alone Time. I know plenty of people who struggle with this one. Whether it’s family, work or maybe some other civic obligation, our time always seems to end up belonging to others. It’s going to take another level of dedication to make yourself invest in yourself. And no, watching your favorite movie doesn’t count. We all need time to detox from the everyday demands on our lives. Take some time away from everything else. Doing this doesn’t have to mean taking an entire day off from adulting. If you only have an hour, then use that hour then use it to invest in yourself. Rest.

Intentional Action. We should pursue a life of intentional decisions and actions. No more just winging it. That doesn’t work. If Jesus would have mindlessly just winged it with his calling, we would be in some serious trouble. Jesus is the Son of God, yet, he studied, prepared and even went to synagogue all in preparation for his appointed time to stand as our Savior. If he didn’t get to wing it, neither can we. It is going to take making unrushed and conscious decisions to live a Christ designed life.

Commitment to Faith. The road to freedom will cost you your comfort. All of us will eventually come to the crossroad of faith and comfort and will have to make a decision. I’ve had to step out on faith more than once and let me tell you, it feels like the afterburn of getting “whupped with a switch”. A “switch” is a fine tree limb for my sisters blessed with lenient parents. Comfort is a killer. It is going to take you staying rooted in the Word of God to through the rough patches and there will be rough patches.

Engage with Community. None of us can do this alone. Life gets hard and you will need a healthy and godly support system to make the most of your life. Jesus had a crew. I suggest you get you one too. While you don’t necessarily need twelve gospel gangstas by your side, at least get you a handful of ladies that have your back and are willing to get uncomfortable with you to help you grow.

Throughout the year, I’ll be working to create some great content and resources that will help renew our minds, change limiting perspectives, overcome oppression and to help propel us into the lives God meant for us to have. If you are tired of going through the cycle of broken hopes, dreams, and relationships or if you are just tired of being stuck in life and not moving forward, you are in the right place sweet pea. Sister, join me and other ladies from around the world as we add some S.P.I.C.E. to our lives. For the brokenhearted, abused, neglected, or just flat out unloved, this is your year.  Let’s Rock This!
